Alabama CNA Exam Prep: Requirements & Study Path
Supplemental written exam prep aligned with the NNAAP content outline. Confirm training, skills checklists, and registry steps in your official Credentia Alabama handbook and Alabama Department of Public Health materials.
How CNA testing works in Alabama
Typical vendor path: Credentia / NNAAP. MedCertPrep is independent exam prep, not a state registry. Use the official resources section for eligibility, fees, and skills wording.
- Alabama uses Credentia for the NNAAP written (or oral) exam and the skills evaluation. Start at the Credentia Alabama test-taker page and open the Candidate Handbook articles for scheduling, fees, and eligibility.
- Skills Evaluation: you typically demonstrate five skills in about 30 minutes. Hand hygiene is always included, and one of the four remaining skills is a measurement skill. Critical Element Steps in bold must be done correctly.
- Written exam: 70 multiple-choice NNAAP items in English (oral option available, including Spanish oral notes in the handbook). You must pass both written/oral and skills within two years of completing training to be eligible for Alabama Nurse Aide Registry listing.
- Alabama does not issue certificates or licenses to nurse aides. After you pass both parts, Credentia submits your name to the Alabama Department of Public Health for registry placement. Your Credentia score report is the document you receive at the test center.
- By state and federal rules, you typically get three attempts in the two years after completing training to pass both parts. If you fail either part three times, you must retrain and retake both parts. Confirm live attempt wording in Exam Results.
- For registry context, use the Credentia Registry article and ADPH Provider Standards (which links to the Alabama Certified Nurse Aide Registry). Do not rely on bookmarked session-ID registry URLs.
- MedCertPrep written practice follows the official NNAAP written blueprint. Skills performance is scored from the Alabama Skills Listing in the Credentia handbook, not from this app.
