What is the California CNA skills test?

How does the California Skills Evaluation run on test day?

Arrive early. The handbook asks candidates to arrive about 30 minutes early and to plan for a longer day because times are approximate. The evaluation area is set up like a care setting. The evaluator shows equipment locations and answers equipment questions before scoring begins.

A candidate volunteer usually plays the client as a weakened older adult. Speak to that person as you would speak to a real resident. Help from anyone during the evaluation is not allowed. Communication between candidate and client must be in English so the evaluator can score correctly. How should you handle mistakes during the skills evaluation?

If you notice an error, say so. Tell the evaluator which step(s) you will correct, then perform those steps. You usually do not redo the entire skill. Exceptions exist. Order-dependent corrections also need a clear statement of when the corrected step belongs, or credit can be denied.

What measurement skills appear in California?

Every candidate performs one measurement skill and records results on the measurement recording sheet. Skills called out in the handbook include blood pressure, weight of an ambulatory client, urinary output, radial pulse, and respirations. You must actually measure and write the result. What happens after skills: scores, retakes, and registry?

Score reports typically appear in your Credentia account within hours after the testing event. Credentia does not give results by phone. If a report is missing after 24 hours, use the contact path in Quick Reference and Exam results.
