Hawaii CNA Skills Test: Prometric Clinical Skills Method
Hawaii CNA clinical skills: five scored skills, handwashing, Indirect Care, Prometric checklist links, DCCA / Hawaii NA Registry notes, and a short rehearsal method that does not replace the Candidate Information Bulletin.
By MedCertPrep Team · Updated September 20, 2026
This short guide is for Hawaii nurse aide candidates preparing for the Prometric Clinical Skills Test. It covers how the Hawaii skills exam is typically structured, how to rehearse without copying the official checklist, and where to open live Prometric and DCCA pages. For the state landing and official resource cards, start at Hawaii CNA. For a longer national skills rehearsal method, use CNA skills test.
Hawaii testing is not the Credentia NNAAP pathway. Confirm fees, attempt limits, and skill checkpoints in the Hawaii Candidate Information Bulletin (PDF) and the Prometric Hawaii Nurse Aide hub. For written CIB weights mapped to MedCertPrep hubs, see Hawaii CNA written exam. Registry context: DCCA Nurse Aide program and Prometric public Hawaii registry search.
What is the Hawaii CNA skills test?
The Clinical Skills Test is the hands-on half of Hawaii certification. Nurse evaluators watch you perform skills and mark checkpoints. You must also pass the Written or Oral Test. A strong written score does not offset a failed skills demonstration.
Per the Hawaii CIB (verify live wording before exam day):
| Detail | Typical Hawaii Prometric rule |
|---|---|
| Scored skills | Five skills total |
| Assigned skills | Usually three skills from the clinical skills list |
| Also scored | Handwashing and Indirect Care |
| Indirect Care | Rights, communication, safety/comfort, infection control across the exam |
| Passing bar | Pass all five scored skills |
| Timing | Commonly about 31 to 40 minutes, depending on the assigned skills |
| Official checkpoints | Prometric clinical skills checklist (PDF) (confirm the live file from the Hawaii Nurse Aide hub) |
This page does not reprint the full skills checklist. Memorize steps only from Prometric / the CIB.
Pro Tip: Practice washing your hands before you touch the resident, even if nobody says "wash your hands." Prometric materials often treat handwashing as scored behavior from the start of the exam.
Where do Hawaii candidates get the official checklist?
- Open the Prometric Hawaii Nurse Aide hub
- Download the Hawaii CIB PDF and read the Clinical Skills overview
- Rehearse from the Prometric clinical skills checklist (PDF)
- Keep the DCCA Nurse Aide program open for licensing context, and use registry.prometric.com/publicHI for public status search when available
If a blog conflicts with Prometric or DCCA, the official documents win. Deep links (PDFs and portals) can move; if one does not open, start from the Prometric Hawaii Nurse Aide hub, the CIB PDF, or the DCCA Nurse Aide program and find the current file there.
How should you rehearse Hawaii skills without copying the list?
Use a short three-layer plan:
- Shell habits: introduce yourself, explain, protect privacy, keep the call light in reach, and protect safety before every transfer. Details: CNA skills test.
- Always-on skills: drill handwashing and Indirect Care as continuous behaviors, not one isolated "station."
- Timed mocks: pick three assigned skills from the official list, plus handwashing and Indirect Care scoring. Grade only against the Prometric checklist.
Support themes with written practice (overlapping nurse aide topics, not a Hawaii clone bank):
- Physical Care
- Role of the Nurse Aide
- Free diagnostic: Try CNA
What else matters on Hawaii skills day?
- Arrive early and follow the CIB arrival window for your site
- Wear flat, nonskid, closed-toe shoes; bring a watch with a second hand when measurement skills are possible
- You may correct a skill while you are still performing it if you tell the nurse you are correcting. After you say you are done with a skill, you usually may not go back
- Nurses will not coach you or discuss results during the test
- Score reports are typically provided at the site for skills; confirm live result rules in the CIB
Route 1 attempt limits and the two-year window from the first test date are handbook-specific. Confirm them in the Hawaii CIB before you schedule. After you pass both parts, Prometric typically mails your certificate and lists you on the Hawaii NA Registry.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hawaii CNA the same as Credentia NNAAP?
No. Hawaii uses Prometric for written/oral and clinical skills, and Prometric manages the Hawaii NA Registry under contract with DCCA. Use Hawaii CIB and checklist materials, not Credentia state handbooks.
How many skills are scored on Hawaii exam day?
Typically five: three assigned skills plus handwashing and Indirect Care. Confirm live wording in the Hawaii CIB.
Can MedCertPrep replace the Hawaii checklist?
No. MedCertPrep provides supplemental written practice and a rehearsal method. Scored checkpoints come only from Prometric.
Next step for Hawaii skills week
- Open Hawaii CNA and download the Hawaii CIB plus clinical skills checklist.
- Drill handwashing and Indirect Care as always-on behaviors.
- Run timed three-skill mocks graded only against the Prometric checklist.
- Support weak written themes with Physical Care while you keep the CIB outline nearby.
Hawaii skills success is checklist fidelity under time pressure. Rehearse from Prometric, protect handwashing and Indirect Care, and use MedCertPrep for study structure around that official core.
