How CNA testing works in Montana
Typical vendor path: Headmaster / D&S Diversified. MedCertPrep is independent exam prep, not a state registry. Use the official resources section for eligibility, fees, and skills wording.
- Montana nurse aide testing is administered by D&SDT-Headmaster for the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS). It is not Credentia NNAAP and not Prometric.
- Create and complete your record in the Montana TestMaster Universe (TMU) portal, pay testing fees, then schedule knowledge and skill exams per the current Candidate Handbook linked from the Headmaster Montana CNA home.
- Knowledge exam (per February 2025 handbook; confirm the live PDF): typically 72 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, drawn from Headmaster handbook subject areas. Passing is typically 75% or better. The knowledge/audio exam is offered in English only.
- Skill test: you typically have a maximum of 35 minutes. You must correctly perform all key (critical) steps and 80% of all non-key steps on each assigned task. Confirm live task count, timing, and scoring in the current handbook.
- You have three attempts to pass knowledge and skills within six months of training completion. After six months that training cycle expires. Challenge candidates who fail any portion must complete an approved training program before retesting.
- Headmaster does not issue the certificate. After you pass both parts, submit the Montana DPHHS / BOUNDS Certified Nurse Aide Application (handbook-cited). The handbook also points candidates to www.cna.mt.gov for a certification number about 10 to 14 days after a complete application.
- MedCertPrep written practice is supplemental theme prep. Montana subject areas and scored skills steps still come from Headmaster and DPHHS materials.
