Nevada CNA Skills Test: Headmaster Tasks, Key Steps, and How to Prep
Nevada CNA skills test with Headmaster / D&SDT: Candidate Handbook scoring, TMU scheduling links, key steps, Nevada State Board of Nursing notes, and a rehearsal method that does not replace the official Nevada task list.
By MedCertPrep Team · Updated September 20, 2026
This guide is for Nevada nurse aide candidates preparing for the Headmaster / D&SDT skills test approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing (NSBN). Nevada is not Credentia NNAAP and not Prometric. For the state overview and official resource cards, start at Nevada CNA. For a vendor-agnostic skills rehearsal method, use CNA skills test.
Confirm live task lists, timing, fees, and attempt rules in the current Candidate Handbook linked from the Headmaster Nevada CNA home Candidate column. Older bookmarked PDF paths (including historical NVCandidateHandbook2.pdf URLs) may 404. Always download the file currently linked on that page before you rehearse. Schedule through the Nevada TMU portal. Board certification is separate: start with NSBN Forms/FAQs, CNA Application Requirements for Examination (PDF), and CNA Renewal FAQ (PDF).
What is the Nevada CNA skills test?
The skills test is the hands-on half of Nevada competency evaluation. An RN Test Observer scores you against the Nevada handbook skill tasks. You must pass skills in addition to the knowledge exam (typically 75 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes per the last published Nevada plan; confirm live wording in the current handbook).
Per Headmaster Nevada Candidate Handbook materials (verify the latest PDF from the Headmaster Nevada home before exam day):
| Detail | Typical Nevada Headmaster rule |
|---|---|
| Vendor | D&SDT-Headmaster approved by NSBN |
| Knowledge exam | About 75 questions, 90 minutes (confirm live handbook) |
| Skills day | Typically about 35 minutes for assigned skill tasks |
| Skills scoring | Commonly 80% on each task plus 100% of bold key steps |
| First task | Often an infection-control style skill that includes hand washing |
| Scheduling | Nevada TMU after your record and fees are complete |
| Registry | Nevada State Board of Nursing after you pass both parts |
| Official steps | Current handbook skill-task list (do not use another state's checklist) |
This page does not reprint the Nevada skill checklist. Memorize steps from the live handbook only.
Pro Tip: Handbook versions change. Always download the PDF currently linked from the Headmaster Nevada Candidate column before you rehearse. Keep NSBN certification steps on your checklist at the same time as TMU scheduling.
Where do Nevada candidates get the official checklist?
- Open Headmaster Nevada CNA home
- Download the current Candidate Handbook from the Candidate column (do not rely on old bookmarked PDF URLs)
- Complete demographics and payment in Nevada TMU
- Rehearse only the skill tasks printed in that handbook
- Complete NSBN CNA Application Requirements for Examination via the Nevada Nurse Portal (training proof, fingerprints, Board fee). Use NSBN Forms/FAQs for related Board forms, and CNA Renewal FAQ after you are certified.
For knowledge-exam subject counts, use the handbook subject table and the mapping on Nevada CNA. Subject counts published from the last known Nevada plan (Safety 7, Infection Control 9, Data Collection 5, Role and Responsibility 9, Mental Health 4, Care Impaired 4, Communication 5, Resident Rights 6, Basic Nursing Skills 9, Disease Process 6, Personal Care 7, Aging Process and Restorative Care 4) must be confirmed in the live PDF.
How should you rehearse Nevada skills?
- Shell habits: introduce yourself, explain, protect privacy, keep the call light in reach, and protect safety before every transfer. Details: CNA skills test.
- Key steps first: bold key steps fail the task if missed. Drill those until automatic, then protect the 80% overall skill threshold.
- Infection-control openers: rehearse the handbook's first-task style scenarios that include hand washing until the sequence is automatic.
- Timed mocks: run the handbook's assigned task count within about 35 minutes, graded only against Nevada handbook wording.
Support overlapping knowledge themes:
- Physical Care
- Psychosocial Care
- Role of the Nurse Aide

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Nevada CNA the same as NNAAP / Credentia?
No. Nevada uses Headmaster subject areas and a Nevada-specific skills task list. MedCertPrep national practice overlaps on themes but is not a Headmaster clone bank.
Where is the current Nevada handbook PDF?
Download it from the Candidate column on the Headmaster Nevada CNA home. Older direct PDF paths may 404.
Do I still need NSBN after I pass Headmaster?
Yes. After you pass both Headmaster parts, complete Board certification through the Nevada Nurse Portal using CNA Application Requirements for Examination. Related forms and the CNA Renewal FAQ live on the NSBN Forms/FAQs page.
Can MedCertPrep replace the Nevada handbook?
No. MedCertPrep provides supplemental written practice and a rehearsal method. Scored skills steps come only from the current Headmaster Nevada Candidate Handbook.
Next step for Nevada skills week
- Open Nevada CNA and download the latest Candidate Handbook PDF from the Headmaster Nevada home.
- Complete TMU demographics and confirm your schedule.
- Drill bold key steps and infection-control openers with hand washing, then run timed full-task mocks.
- Support weak knowledge themes with Physical Care while you keep the handbook subject table nearby.
Nevada skills success is handbook fidelity under time pressure. Rehearse from Headmaster, protect key steps, and use MedCertPrep for study structure around that official core.
