How CNA testing works in New Jersey

- New Jersey uses two vendors under the Department of Health: Headmaster / D&S Diversified for the Skills Evaluation (TMU), then PSI Services for the written or oral exam. Skills come first. Do not schedule PSI until Headmaster skills results post.
- Complete a 90-hour NATCEP (typically 50 classroom + 40 clinical), then register in New Jersey TMU (nj.tmutest.com). You must pass the Skills Evaluation before you can schedule the PSI written or oral exam.
- Skills Evaluation (per the PSI Candidate Information Bulletin skill section; confirm live wording): hand washing plus four randomly selected skills (five tasks total). Pass each task at 80% without missing bold key steps.
- Written exam (PSI): typically 60 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, pass at 75%. An English or Spanish oral option is available. Content topic counts are listed in the PSI bulletin.
- You commonly have two years from training completion to pass both parts, and one year from your first skills attempt to finish both exams. Three fails on skills or three fails on written/oral typically require retraining. Confirm live attempt rules in the bulletin.
- After both parts pass and background checks clear, you are listed on the New Jersey Nurse Aide Registry. Renewal is commonly every two years with qualifying employment hours.
