New Mexico CNA Exam Prep: Requirements & Study Path

Supplemental study for New Mexico nurse aide candidates on the Headmaster / D&SDT pathway with the New Mexico Health Care Authority. Confirm TMU scheduling, Candidate Handbook subject areas, skills tasks, and NMHCA registry steps on official pages.

How CNA testing works in New Mexico

Typical vendor path: Headmaster / D&S Diversified. MedCertPrep is independent exam prep, not a state registry. Use the official resources section for eligibility, fees, and skills wording.

  • New Mexico nurse aide testing is administered by D&SDT-Headmaster for the New Mexico Health Care Authority (NMHCA). It is not Credentia NNAAP and not Prometric. Older Prometric New Mexico CIB and registry materials online are outdated; use Headmaster and TMU only.
  • Create and complete your record in the New Mexico TestMaster Universe (TMU) portal, pay testing fees, then schedule knowledge and skill exams per the current Candidate Handbook (April 2026 handbook linked from the Headmaster New Mexico CNA home).
  • Knowledge exam (per April 2026 handbook): typically 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, drawn from Headmaster handbook subject areas. Passing is typically 74% or better.
  • Skill test: you typically demonstrate 3 to 4 assigned tasks in about 30 minutes. All critical/key (bold) steps must be correct, and you must also meet the handbook non-key step threshold (commonly 80%). Confirm live task count, timing, and scoring in the current handbook.
  • You generally have three attempts to pass knowledge and skills within 24 months of training completion. Confirm live attempt and window wording in the current handbook.
  • After you pass both parts, Headmaster hosts New Mexico Nurse Aide Registry listing through TMU. Use the NMHCA Certified Nurse Aide Registry page and TMU public search for registry context.
  • MedCertPrep written practice is supplemental theme prep; New Mexico subject areas and scored skills steps still come from Headmaster and NMHCA materials.

Official New Mexico CNA resources

Read these official pages first. We summarize what each covers and link out. We do not copy full skills checklists; scored steps belong on the vendor site. Fees, eligibility, skills wording, attempt rules, and handbook articles can change without notice. Always confirm the latest details on the official site before you register or rehearse. If a deep link does not open, start from the official homepage below and look up the current document there.

Study on MedCertPrep

New Mexico knowledge items follow the Headmaster Candidate Handbook subject areas (typically 60 questions in 60 minutes). MedCertPrep practice is NNAAP-structured supplemental prep for overlapping nurse aide themes (ADLs, safety, infection control, rights, reporting). It is not a Headmaster clone bank. Scored skills steps come only from the official New Mexico handbook task list.

Practice by nurse aide theme

These hubs use MedCertPrep's national CNA bank (organized in NNAAP-style domains). Themes overlap with New Mexico handbook subject areas, but confirm question counts and wording in the live Candidate Handbook.

Study guides

Skills steps always defer to your New Mexico Headmaster handbook. Start with the New Mexico skills guide for official deep links, then use national method articles for rehearsal structure.
