New York CNA written exam guide: 60-question Prometric bulletin outline weights, how they differ from NNAAP, and a map from each CIB area to MedCertPrep practice hubs.

By MedCertPrep Team · Updated September 16, 2026

This short guide helps New York candidates use MedCertPrep for the Prometric Written/Oral exam without treating our bank as a New York-labeled clone. Official domain weights and wording live in the New York Candidate Information Bulletin (PDF). For the state landing, start at New York CNA. For skills, use New York CNA skills test.

How does the New York written exam differ from NNAAP?

New York uses Prometric for nursing home nurse aide testing. Many Credentia states (including California) use the 2024 NNAAP written outline. MedCertPrep's national CNA bank is organized around NNAAP-style domains.

Domain labelsRole, Safety, Function/Health, Basic Nursing Care, Specialized CarePhysical Care, Psychosocial Care, Role of the Nurse Aide

Themes still overlap heavily (ADLs, infection control, rights, reporting, emergencies). The map below shows how to allocate MedCertPrep practice against New York weights.

Pro Tip: Keep the New York bulletin PDF open while you practice. When a question feels "Role vs Safety," check which outline section owns that topic before you decide what to drill next.

Confirm percentages in the live bulletin. Use our hubs for theme volume, not as a claim that every item is New York-blueprint tagged. Official deep links can change; if a PDF does not open, start from the Prometric New York Nurse Aide hub and download the current Candidate Information Bulletin there.
