How CNA testing works in North Dakota
Typical vendor path: Headmaster / D&S Diversified. MedCertPrep is independent exam prep, not a state registry. Use the official resources section for eligibility, fees, and skills wording.
- North Dakota nurse aide testing is administered by D&SDT-Headmaster for the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). It is not Credentia NNAAP and not Prometric.
- Create and complete your record in the North Dakota TestMaster Universe (TMU) portal, pay testing fees, then schedule knowledge and skill exams per the current Candidate Handbook linked from the Headmaster North Dakota CNA home.
- Knowledge exam (per April 2025 handbook, Version 6; confirm the live PDF): typically 72 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, drawn from Headmaster handbook subject areas. Passing is typically 75% or better.
- Skill test: you typically have a maximum of 30 minutes. You must correctly perform all key (bold) steps and 80% of all non-key steps on each assigned task. Confirm live task count, timing, and scoring in the current handbook.
- You have three attempts to pass knowledge and skills from the date of training completion. After three failures you must complete an approved training program again. The option to challenge the exam ended July 1, 2024.
- After you pass both parts, Headmaster transmits results to DHHS for Nurse Aide Registry listing. Use the DHHS Nurse Aide Registry page and TMU public search for status context.
