Idaho CNA Exam Prep: Requirements & Study Path

Supplemental CNA study for Idaho candidates. Prometric administers the written (and oral) exam. Manual Skills is completed through your training program before you sit for the written exam. Confirm the Candidate Information Bulletin, DHW registry steps, and public lookup on official pages.

How CNA testing works in Idaho

Typical vendor path: Prometric. MedCertPrep is independent exam prep, not a state registry. Use the official resources section for eligibility, fees, and skills wording.

  • The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare approved Prometric to administer the Certified Nurse Aide written (knowledge) exam, including an oral format. Prometric does not administer the Manual Skills evaluation.
  • Route 1 (new nurse aide): finish a state-approved training program and pass the Manual Skills evaluation within six months of training completion. Bring proof of the skills exam on written-test day. The written exam must be completed within 12 months of training. You have three attempts to pass each exam. Confirm live route wording in the Idaho CIB.
  • Written or oral exam (per Idaho CIB): typically 60 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes. Passing is an overall score, not a pass in every content area. The CIB does not publish a single percentage cutoff in the scoring section. Confirm live pass wording in the current bulletin.
  • The written content outline is the Prometric Idaho outline in the Candidate Information Bulletin (Role 18%, Safety 18%, Function and Health 24%, Basic Nursing Care 26%, Specialized Care 14%), not the Credentia 2024 NNAAP written outline.
  • Schedule the written exam with your training program or the program assigned by the Department. Do not mail the testing application to Prometric or DHW. Confirm live fees in the current CIB (bulletin sections do not all show the same dollar amount).
  • After you pass both Manual Skills and the written exam, your name is added to the Idaho CNA Registry. Use the Idaho DHW Certified Nurse Assistant Registry page and the Prometric public Idaho registry search. The older CNARegistry.dhw.idaho.gov host cited in some bulletin text may not resolve.
  • MedCertPrep is supplemental practice for overlapping nurse aide themes. It is not an Idaho Prometric item bank and it does not replace the NATCEP Manual Skills evaluation.

Official Idaho CNA resources

Read these official pages first. We summarize what each covers and link out. We do not copy full skills checklists; scored steps belong on the vendor site. Fees, eligibility, skills wording, attempt rules, and handbook articles can change without notice. Always confirm the latest details on the official site before you register or rehearse. If a deep link does not open, start from the official homepage below and look up the current document there.

Study on MedCertPrep

Idaho written items follow the Prometric Candidate Information Bulletin outline (typically 60 questions in 90 minutes). MedCertPrep practice is NNAAP-structured supplemental prep for overlapping nurse aide themes. It is not an Idaho-labeled bank. Manual Skills steps come from your NATCEP only. Do not treat leftover Clinical Skills pages in the Idaho CIB as a same-day Prometric skills exam.

Practice by nurse aide theme

These hubs use MedCertPrep's national CNA bank (organized in NNAAP-style domains). Themes overlap with the Idaho CIB areas, but confirm percentages and wording in the live bulletin.

Study guides

Start with the Idaho written map for CIB domain weights. Use the Idaho Manual Skills guide for NATCEP-first timing and proof rules. Do not treat leftover Clinical Skills pages in the CIB as the Idaho skills checklist.
